Welcome to the Year of the Tiger

(Image found on b_cool's flickr page)

Today is the first day of the Chinese New Year celebration, ushering in the year of the tiger. Coincidentally, it also happens to be Valentine's Day.

Today is also the day that I try to find my place in the quest to save our planet. Today is the day I join the fight for tigers.

According to the World Wildlife Foundation, there are as few as 3,200 tigers left in the wild. I have decided, therefore, to make it my goal to raise $3,200 before the Head of State Tiger Summit that will be held this September. I'll be using a variety of tricks to accomplish this goal... special sales in my etsy store, special events, begging on my facebook page, ya know. All money raised will go directly to the World Wildlife Foundation through the Panda Page that I've set up.

The first $250 raised will be used to Adopt a Tiger!

The WWF is also pushing a new initiative, Tx2, the goal of which is to double the population of tigers in the wild before the next year of the tiger in 2022. This has inspired me to do a little long-term planning of my own.

This year is the start of my own tiger initiative.

My goal? I plan to be working in the conservation/preservation field (maybe even with the WWF!) by the time the next year of the tiger comes around.I have applied to Stony Brook University, and if accepted I plan to study environmental and ecological sciences. Here's to taking the first step on a long journey!
